about

In 2011, Switchfoot released Vice Verses, an christian-adjacent rock album tackling issues of waning interest in life and a lack of trust toward the leading powers of society and information services. A remix contest for the first track Afterlife captured my imagination and I have spent the last 6 years trying over and over again to transform their song into something magical, and I feel I finally did it. As I have drifted further and further away from the Christian faith I was raised in, I've started recontextualizing the songs I knew then. This is now a song about choosing my destiny. It's a song about rejecting the notion that we should suffer in the life for a reward in the next. This is about me claiming my future for myself and coming alive.

I am not charging for this, as it is a remix and not entirely my own work. Everything save for the vocals and the guitar feedback noise at the beginning were recorded by me with two Roland D-05s, a Behringer Model D, Serum, and Guitar Rig

lyrics

[Lyrics by Jon and Tim Foreman]

I've tasted fire I'm ready to come alive
I can't just shut it up and fake that I'm alright
I'm ready now
I'm not waiting for the afterlife

I'll Let it burn the way the sunlight burns my skin
The way I feel inside, the way the day begins
I'm ready now
I'm not waiting for the other side
I'm ready now, I'm ready now

Cause everyday the world is made
A chance to change But I feel the same
And I wonder
Why would I wait till I die to come alive?
I'm ready now
I'm not waiting for the afterlife

I still believe we could live forever
You and I we begin forever now
Forever now
Forever
I still believe in us together
You and I we're here together now
Forever now
Forever now
Or never now
Forever now

[guitar solo]

Everyday
A choice is made
Everyday
I choose my fate
And I wonder
Why would I wait till I die to come alive?
Everyday I still feel the same
And I wonder why would I wait till I die to come alive?
I'm ready now
I'm not waiting for the afterlife
